Pressing A when two text boxes are overlaid will actually close both text boxes at the same time. This caused an overlaying text box glitch. After we placed the orb in the Crystal Star room, we took it out once all the Punies triggered the cutscene because we wanted to see what would happen. We do the same Puni glitch again to skip the switch that makes the water drain out. We get a Thunder Bolt for the Hyper Clefts battle in Chapter 3. Because the Punies get scared by Piders (and not the Yux!?) we have to do the Puni glitch again a few rooms later. We spent a lot of time trying out Jabbi battles with different RNG values and went with the best we could get. In the room with the bubbles, we use the Puni glitch so they don’t run away. The main difficulty in this chapter was the cute, yet annoying, Punies. We then manipulate Mystery during the Shadow Sirens battle to use as a Shooting Star. Before leaving Petal Meadows, we get Mystery for the Shadow Sirens battle in Chapter 2.įirst off, we get the P-Down, D-Up badge for financial purposes so we can afford Mega Rush and Power Rush, and Quake Hammer for Chapter 3 battles. By doing this 7 times, he can maneuver around the Dull Bones without triggering an encounter. Pausing gives Mario an extra frame to move around without triggering any enemy battles. Mowz appears in, we do an interesting strat that seems to serve no purpose. This is done by shooting him far enough to the left so that he grabs the key at the last instant. Once there, we used a small trick to jump before Koops grabs the key. After getting the paper curse, we backtracked to the Red Bones room. Following that, we used Goombella Buffering to skip getting the key in the large staircase flip room. In Hooktail Castle, we utilized the Red Bones timesaver to save roughly 2.5 seconds. There was slight RNG manipulation to get FP after the Fuzzy battles. He will always ask this on questions 1 and 5 though. It occurs randomly and can be avoided by advancing RNG a few times. One small thing to note is that during the quiz, there’s a small chance that the Thwomp statue will ask, “Are you sure?” during questions 2-4. Huge thanks to Imaynotbehere4long and Balmz for testing this hack! If you notice anything weird with this version, or would like to see something added in a future release, feel free to contact Griscuit. The first part of this chapter didn’t have anything interesting besides Dolphin’s inaccurate emulation of the sewer water. Check out the “modern mod” txt file to see everything that entails.
Should you be so inclined, there is also a third mod included that updates certain enemies and items to make their appearance more in-line with later Paper Mario titles.
The “extra mod” txt file in the zip details all of the changes, check it out and see if it strikes your fancy. There is a second mod available that adds some fun extras a couple of gags from the Spanish localization are added to the mix, several minor plotholes have been patched up, and much more.
The basic, no-frills mod fixes errors and oversights in the game’s script, and reverts changes made during the game’s localization (cola = alcohol, the whole business with Vivian’s gender, etc.) This hack makes a bevvy of changes to Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.
Check out the readme file for the full details. It’s been a while, but version 4.0 is now available! Plenty of new additions to this update.
